Dave, you are doing an amazing job. I was one of the four guys who recently finished the 8000km trip across Canada with the Push for the Cure. I know exactly what's going through your mind and how you body is feeling and I know it is incredible. I'm am always so proud to see the skate community making change. From Adam Colton to Rob Dyer to the Push to You, we are showing the world we can make a difference. As we rolled into Vancouver we had over 150 riders with us showing their support. It was the most emotional moment of my life. I hope/know that you will have that same experience. I wish you all the best. I also look forward to riding with you one day. Stay strong and keep those feet moving. The world is watching.
(13.9.07)

Michael Stride @ octanesport.co.uk - Brilliant Dave. Your slalom buddies from London are dead proud of you. An amazing acheivement. (22.1.07)

Mark Keller - Yeah! Well Done all the team, I'm sure you could not have skated a mile without the fantastic bunch behind you. But remember Dave the whole thing was nothing without YOU skating everyone of those miles. No team riding in this effort! Don't measure the success of this thing in terms of money! Money is a terrible indicator of success. Think of the multiplying effect of all the attention given to each of your causes. Until boardfree I didn't ride a longboard, didn't know anything about Lowe Syndrome, Sailability or Link Community Development, now I'm riding my longboard around Sydney telling anyone who will listen about all these things! And I'm sure I'm only one of thousands. I, and my whole family have enjoyed every push of your journey, watching it evolve, link up with others and share the boardfree spirit. We even bought an Amazing Drumming Monkeys Video because of boardfree! In short, thankyou. Regards (red rollsrolls)

We hope that tomorrow is everything you want it to be.
(21.1.07)

Sam Benson - Let me start with CONGRATULATIONS!You accomplished what you set out to accomplish.
You realized a dream and set about getting the job done, your efforts have not only affected and inspired the people around you, but hundreds of people the world over! You and your team are single handedly helping to change the world we live in, how many people can say that about themselves?. I for one know of a phenomenal amount of people that have been inspired to either get on a skateboard and actively get involved with their community, do a long distance journey of their own for charity or just get off their asses and look at life a little differently and realise their dreams and potential.
You truly are a man of great valour Dave. And i am deeply humbled and honored to have been one of those people you have inspired. You changed my life bro, and for that i am eternally grateful. I look forward to seeing you and the team in the very near future!
(21.1.07)

Neil Thompson - Dear Dave & The Gang, Just logged on to tell you that you made  todays Daily Telegraph, but I see that your web site is ahead of me - so you must know that the 'Skateboard Wizard of Oz' covers most of page 16 with Dave & Elsa pictured in full colour. It was quite a surprise to be sitting at the dinner table and suddenly find you grinning back at me - but well deserved that you get some recognition because what you have all achieved is truely amazing. Hope the last few kilometres go OK and that there is a good turn out in Brisbane on Monday. I see from the paper that you are going to be met by British Consulate officials - hope they are not going to deport you or anything.

- Dave, G'DAY MATE! You flamin' galah, I just wanted to tell me how much you have delighted me/reduced me to tears over the last few months - I feel like I have been there with you in spirit every step of your incredible adventure, sans metal spike in my foot... Jim Blaxland (Team Leader of the Perth to Sydney Cycle Ride) - Hi Dave,I am one of a group of 16 cyclists that met up with going across the Nullarbor on Wednesday 25th September (day 25 of your trip). I was inspired by your strong mental ability and capacity and the physical fitness that goes with those two things. I wish you well as you now tackle the hilly part of your journey and that your body will maintain its stamina and fortitude to get you to Brisbane. I know that with your strong mental willpower that you will do exceedingly well. I am keeping an eye on your website in the hope that I will be able to cheer you on when you arrive in the southern outskirts of Sydney. If I miss you, I wish well for the rest of your epic journey to Brisbane.
(7.12.06)

Carla Kuipers - You inspire me!  I picked up my first long board while I was backpacking through Canada this last Summer 06. It literally was was love at first roll *sorry lame'o line*.  I spent many days and late nights on the roads where I was living in BC Canada carving up the tar.  I left Canada last September and travelled back to my home town of Australia with long board in hand.  Without the free time and not having pals to go with unfortunately my board has not been out as much.  This week I stumpled across your site this week and I must say I've been inspired.  The board has returned to tar and I have once again discovered the freedom of the tarmac. Thanks!
(4.12.06)

Emilie Venables - Dear all, I've been meaning to write from hot and sticky Senegal for ages, well, since august, and am finally getting round to it...I just wanted to let you all know how much I am enjoying following your journey - i am so proud of you all - it must be hard spending all your time together, and it seems like you're coping amazingly. Your blogs are all a delight to read (yes, even Si!!) - I am slightly obsessed - damn Senegal and its reliable internet connection - I spend way too much time reading your stories and looking at photos of your trip! Thank you also for introducing me to the SheWee - it's made peeing in Africa so much easier! No more squatting over cockroach infested toilets - woohoo! Anyway, just wanted to send my support  - i tell everyone i meet about you guys and the wonderful journey you're all making. Bon voyage - not long now 'til that world record!
(1.12.06)

Leah @ Port Campbell Visitors Centre - Hello Dave and the gang! Greetings from Port Campbell! Just letting you all know you are greatly missed and well thought of!  You brought a fantastic vibe into our community, and are achieving amazing goals!
(25.11.06)

Shelagh Donegan @ Sale Specialist School - Dear Dave and Crew, Thank you for taking the time to stop over at Sale Specialist School before setting out on your trip to Bairnsdale today. It was great to meet you all and to find out about what you are doing.  We were all just blown away by your achievements and plans for the rest of your journey. Many of our students did not quite understand the concept of skateboarding along a highway but those that did are still asking us questions. The dedication it takes to draw a team of strangers into a cohesive unit to attempt such a task is incredible along with the dedication of your team members to making things happen. The local Sailability guys, Neil, Kevin and Ross were thrilled with your generous donation and are already planning to look at new life jackets to suit some of our hard to fit students. They were stoked to see such support for all of the volunteer work that they do. Best wishes to all of you for the remainder of the journey, with an inspirational leader and a well organised and enthusiastic team we have no doubt that you will reach your goal and beyond. We hope you get to see a fair bit of our beautiful country along the way and enjoy Aussie hospitality.
(24.11.06)

Arvind - Hi Dave, My name is Arvind, and your brother bought his Aussie Dollars from me at International Currency Exchange at Heathrow Airport a few days ago.  He was telling me all about your journey, the world record, and the charity you're doing this for.  Great stuff mate, keep it up, and good luck!

Cynthia Moretti - BRAVO, DAVE, BRAVISSIMO! GO, DAVE, GO! It's Cynthia here (your Italian textbook writer). I have been following you!!! And what can I say, you are pure inspiration! My "team" (editorial staff) and I, here in Italy , have been supporting you from the start! God bless you (and Elsa!)! Cynthia p.s. Remember you "promised" Italy in your last email! Thus, I must ask, after Australia , what could be more exciting than "Un Tour dell'Italia"?? Hannibal did it with elephants! Coppi and Bartoli with bikes! Schumi with the F1!!! And I know you can do it with "Elsa"! Imagine the thrills of skating past Estruscan tombs, "hanging ten" on Roman aqueducts, or doing an "ollie" on the Spanish Steps! Wherever you ramble in Italy , you are taken back to History! There's no escape; history is the backbone of our now; the basis of our future!  Italy is waiting for you! P.P.S. May the road rise up to meet you and may the wind be always at your back!
(19.11.06)

Andy Biddulph - Hey my names Andy, am looking at doing the skate from John o'Groats to Land's End. I was wondering if it was possible to et some information about the journey. I wanted to know how you got the funding to pay for the journey and what kind of preperation you had to do physically and for the journy itself. I know you're busy crossing Australia and i respect what you are doing its amazing to see such ambition, you have been an inspiration to me and I would love to follow in your foot steps. Please contact back so that I can start making the preperatrion to undertake a journy that will change how I look at life. Much respect.
(18.11.06)
Dave's reply: Hi there Andy, Most of my preparation for BFUK was mental. Physically, if you're in decent condition and you're willing to go through some pain - and of course if your skate skills are ready for the big hills and the long road - then you're set. Ultimately the biggest test is a mental one. If you believe you're capable of reaching your end goal and you're sensible in your approach to safety on the road then there's very little that can stop you. A good support team always goes a long way to keeping you mentally strong, and after that all I can say is prepare well. To date a few people have begun preparations to undertake skate journeys on behalf of BoardFree and if you'd be willing to become another skater for BoardFree I'd be delighted. Let me know your plans, your proposed route and other relevant information and I'll help you along as much as I can. Appreciate your support Andy, good luck with getting ready for your journey. Go for it mate.

Edward Lonsdale, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal - Hi there Dave and the Gang! You are doing a fabulous job. All that effort solely for the benefit of others merits medals and glory beyond these messageboards. I follow your progress from Portugal and speak about your efforts to friends and family who wonder at you and your teams' strength. Keep up the good work!

You're making great progress. Keep up the good work!
(3.10.06)

Mrs Holland's geography class at Woldgate College , Yorkshire - Today in geography we have been learning about the population, climate and weather of Australia , through the last few lessons we have been keeping track of your progress and we think your doing very well. We are all going to make a donation online for you soon. We also have a question for you: have you seen any animals that you wouldn't find in the uk ? Good luck on the rest of your trip.
(3.10.06)
Reply: Hello everyone! We are all in a place called Wudinna, which is in South Australia about 200km south east of Ceduna along the Eyre Highway, which is such a long road that it is longer than England and Scotland put together. We have been travelling a long way each day and today we saw two snakes on the road, one was small - about the size of two pencils put together - and the other was really big, about six foot long and as fat as your wrists! We've seen other animals like kangaroos and wombats and lots of beautiful birds, especially plump red Galahs! Two weeks ago we visited the ocean and saw lots of whales too, they were resting before beginning a long journey to the south pole. I hope you're all enjoying our journey and look forward to hearing from you again, learn well! From Dave and the team in Australia

Madge - Wow, Dave! You've done miles! Well done! I'm checking your progress every other day from my desk at work (snore!) and thinking of you and your team and your big adventure. Not long to go now (!). Keep on pushing.

Elsa, my wife, offered you all a dinner when you come to Brisbane . That was not a hollow promise, she meant it and you are very welcome. Just ring us when you get here.
(1.10.06)

(17.9.06)

So when you get back you can look.
Everyone in Swansea University Students Union wishes you well.
As your all rolling along and at times going through hell.
When I see you on ccn with your smashing boardfree pics,
I look forward to spilling my cuppa tea and dropping my twix!

Tom Stubbs - If you finish, I'll do the London Marathon for BoardFree. That's not only a dare, it's a way of life for the next 9 months for me but I am saying I'm going to do the London Marathon for BoardFree.
(19.08.06)

Tom Kinsley - Dave, the very best of luck to You, Elsa and the team. A truely worthy cause, your dedication to the event is a real inspiration not only to fundraisers alike but to the average joe (like me) sitting at home. It was a real pleasure meet you and Dim earlier this year and a priviliage to have you guys as guests to MASUAS. You've got our support.
(19.08.06)

Dave Griffiths - Just wanted to take the chance to wish you guys all the best for the coming months! Hope things are eventually taking shape! I will be following the trip closely and as soon as I get that ever elusive graduate job, I will be sending some of my first pay slip BoardFree's way! Say hey to everyone and give Dave and Bev the good 'ole' big Dave bear hug. (p.s tell dave that if he manages to neck a pint after completing every single mile on the way, he will officially receive full repect!)
(19.08.06)

Peter Kirkham - Hi Dave, wish you all the luck on the Australian mega skate! I have a couple of longboards of my own and two kids of primary school age and i was very excited to hear about your planned tour of uk primary schools. Is it
possible to nominate a school for one of your visits?

Reply: if anyone would like to nominate a school for BoardFree's 2007 initiative tour drop Dave an email

Adrian Bricknell - Hi Dave, best of luck for your upcoming Super-Odyssey from everyone at Crosshands Chiropractic Clinic! Leigh (Dave's chiropractor) is really looking forward to meeting up with you guys in December, and I'll be scheduling some Sports Therapy sessions for you when you get back to Wales , to make sure your joints and muscles haven't taken too much punishment! All the best!

Beth Antonia Hodge - Wishing you the best of luck for your phenomenal challenge, will be watching your progress on your website along the way.  I have the greatest respect for what you have achieved so far and for what you are about to do.
(9.8.06)

Peter & Pauline Cornthwaite (Dave's parents) - Dad & I wish you and the fantastic team you've put together all the very, very best for the adventure to come in Australia, they don't know what's hit them yet, but they will soon!! I really hope that you reach, and exceed, your expected goal of sponsorship donations for the charities. What an inspiration you are. Such total dedication, focus and relentless determination is commendable. We'll be watching you every inch of the way, and hungry for as much information on people, weather, transport, roads, wildlife, good, bad and ugly on route to Brisbane over the next 4 months! Good luck all of you, take good care of yourselves and see you in Sydney in December.
(7.8.06)

Gale & Olly from Turin Brakes - Any initiative to encourage sports with kids is a good one, and doing it through such an expressive sport as skateboarding is even better. As we both spent our teen years trying to land kick-flips and method airs we appreciate the freedom, fun and frustration of skating. When we heard about Dave's amazing achievements it really struck home - the image of a lone man skateboarding across a lonely landscape whilst listening to our music is just a perfect notion! So we'd like to wish Dave all the very best to complete his latest challenge happy and unharmed . Good luck!
(28.7.06)

Susie Davies-Lowe - Don't think you need luck really ... just hold onto that inspiration & determination and you'll succeed! Well done to your support team too! We'll be following your route with great interest - enjoy every moment -life's rich tapestry and something to tell the grandchildren one day!
(16.7.06)

Phil McDonald @ www.alltrails.com.au - G’day Dave, What an adventure!   Safety advice.  Wear very bright clothing, don’t ride at night, or very early morning, because sun coming up will blind weary drivers with dirty windscreens. If there is a truck coming towards you and a truck coming behind and they are going to pass each other where you are, get off the road. Ask truckies in roadhouses to warn other truckies of you road presence, via their two way radios. Keep well left on crest of hill when vehicle coming from behind. Drink and eat well. Smile lots and ride like there’s no tomorrow.
(12.7.06)

David Mooney - Just heard about boardfree Aus-what a feat, i drove over the Nullarbor twice  last year (drove round the whole of OZ-amazing) and seen people walking cycling and roller blading it now the longboard joins the list. Hope you do it mate and enjoy it as you are probably well aware you are about to face a whole lot of nothingness, some of the scenery is spectacular some of it doesn't seem to change for 100's of kilometres. Watch out for the roadkill-some big roos out there also watch out for the goats, cows, camels, lizards, emus, wild cats, dingoes and huge eagles that you will hopefully be lucky enough to encounter on the way, most of all watch out for the roadtrains they are huge!!!! All the very best to you and your crew.
(7.7.06)

Stefan Scheytt - My most sincere congratulations on your impressive accomplishment. During your trip I was watching your videos on the Internet with disbelief and found your dedication to your mission a great inspiration. The length of Britain on a skateboard? You've done it. You're a bad-ass in my book!! My respect and admiration goes out to you. When I met you outside my office in London , I thought you were a bit insane and talking s*** but you put your money where your mouth is. Excellent Stuff!! Now, crack open a cold one and put that foot up -- you've done it! I'll make sure to keep an eye on your adventures in the future.
(6.6.06)

Steve @ Munchhboards - Just caught the last video blog, you the man, we were all talking about you at friday slalom at Hove. I cant think what to say really, just nice one, its something that few people will ever attempt and you couldn't have done it for better reasons. Rest that foot dood, you deserve it.
(5.6.06)

Leon Hill - Well done on a great skate. We spoke of doing it once but now someone beat us to it there's no point. Thanks. No really, thanks.
(5.6.06)

(1.6.06)

Helen and the Linky gang - The countdown is on Dave!  Only a few miles to go before you achieve official 'Link Community Development Legend' status - we are all SO impressed/proud/amazed by your will-power, commitment and frankly, sheer lunacy. Thank you so much for supporting LCD.
P.S. ah, who needs two fully functional feet anyway, a few years in support stockings and you'll be right as rain!
(31.5.06)

Ann Brennan (mother of Connor, who has Lowe Syndrome) - It was great to meet you all on Sunday. I'm following your progress every day, you are doing so well. Land's End is calling. Enjoy friday. I love the photos of Conor, he's much better today, he's listening to Snoop Dog. A bit rude!!! Anyone who is reading this please give generously to Boardfree to benefit three great charities. Conor has Lowe Syndrome and I can tell you it is a devastating condition. Conor is totally blind, a few years ago he had his left eye removed and the same thing will happen to  his right eye. Another very sad day. Conor is in a wheelchair, suffers from epilepsy, chronic constipation, has  a renal condition which can lead to kidney failure, severe learning difficulties and behavior problems. We never know what tomorrow might bring. Sounds harse but this is the reality of Lowe Syndrome. We need to raise lots of money for research so the next generation are free from this terrible disease. So everybody dig deep, be inspired by Dave and all his team.
(31.5.06)

Stephen Ellis - You've opened doors to new ideas for me.  I'm just getting into long distance road cycling.  Will be pushing the boundaries a little more after hearing of your achievements.  Keep up the good work..you're an inspiration to all.

(29.5.06)

Ann Brennan - Hi Dave it was great to speak to you yesterday. I want to thank you so much for choosing lowe syndrome as one of your charities. I've got a son conor ,who's got LS and I am so happy that youre raising awarenessof LS.We would love to support you as you go through Devon ,if you can give us an approximate time when you will be in Okehampton it would be great .I hope your foot is better and good luck with the rest of your journey and I'll be following your many miles in Australia.
28.5.06)

Jules and Paul Streete - Well done for slogging on despite blisters and the wettest May in 200 years..maybe you should have surfed it? We're thinking of you now and all best wishes for Oz.Surely it can't rain quite so much there!
(28.5.06)

Tara Erskine - Well done, I am truly amazed by what you are doing! Keep going, I support you 100%. I think what you are doing for The Lowe Syndrome Trust, and the other charities, is really good, and i really really admire you for doing it, Keep it up, You have my full support. Keep going.
(27.5.06)

(18.05.06)

Jono Coleman - Dave, we think you are mad but thanks for raising all those much needed pounds for the Lowe Syndrome Trust and the other charities. You are a legend, we love you. Jono and the team at BBC London 94.9FM.
(18.05.06)

Chandler Bong - Hey bud, congrats on your success so far, I'm not starting off quite as hard core as yourself but I'm looking to do a 210 mile session from sidmouth to brighton in the next couple of months and i was wandering basically what training you've been doing to get ready for austrailia. I hope everything goes well over the remainder of your trip and i hope to hear from you soon.
(18.05.06)

Phil Rhys - I've been checking the website and keeping up to speed on your trip, can't believe you've made it this far.. keep up the good work and keep on skating dude and remember that for every section of uphill, there is always a section of downhill!!!!!!!
(18.05.06)

(18.05.06)

(17.05.06)

Gill Erskine - This is just a message of good luck. I have just been on your website - what an incredible thing to be doing. My boyfriend and I cycled the route last year for the Anthony nolan Trust, it was amazing - though, as you must be finding - absolutely nackering! (16.05.06)

(11.05.06)

Erin Rimmel - I am from Vancouver Canada and am enjoying the info on your site that is documenting your skate(s) for charity. As well I wanted to give him thumbs up for wearing a helmet and safety gear on his journey. Some cross country longboards don't do the safety gear which is sad as it sets a bad example for other skaters.  Good on Dave for wearing
the gear.
(11.05.06)

Godfrey McDonnell - Well done for seeing off the highland chavs. I adore Holly's expression. "Do you still love me." Ride on Dave you're our hero.
(10.05.06)

Magster - Wishing you the best of luck on your challenge. You can do it!!! Stay safe.
(10.05.06)

(10.05.06)

Mike Furst - I'm with a small company here in the states called Old Man Army. I wanted to wish you the best of luck and to keep your spirits up. If I lived anywhere near your route, I would be joining you for some skating and sightseeing. Take care.
(10.05.06)

Kat Josselyn - Dave, do hope you are keeping an extra special eye out for that second toe on the right foot, look after yourself, it was awesome to see you - i'll soon be able to say i've met a real-life famous person if you keep going at this rate of interest!! fab work, and loving your fanbase between crieff and falkirk! xxx
(9.05.06)

Donald Smairt - Dave and support team- Enjoyed our meeting at Weem on Saturday-glad to see you're making steady progress. You missed a great party, but I'm pretty sure it might have been a detour too far! The drawing is under way! I'll post it on this site once it's done, and we can arrange to get the original to you at a later date. Keep up the great work-we'll be watching your progress-keep safe, and best of luck.
(8.05.06)

Gael Evans - Keep it up Dave! congratulations on what you've done so far, but if you keep going at that speed you won't even pick up a hint of the scottish accent... Best of luck for the rest of the journey.

(06.05.06)

Jack Smith (current world record holder for distance boarding) - I'm so happy to see you begin your trek. I want to thank you again for choosing The Lowe Syndrome Trust as one of your charities. As you know my son Jack died from complications due to Lowe Syndrome in 2003. I wish you Godspeed.
(06.05.06)

Chris Harris - Dave you are a Legend! I skated 40mins to work and home the other day and was cream crackered, how you keep going I don't know. Keep your chin up the world is watching, I know you will make it!

(02.05.06)

James Cracknell - Dave's venture deserves backing not only because of the benefits to the three children charities but because he's clearly crazy and needs all the support he can get!
(2.05.06)

Emilie Venables from Senegal - Greetings from Senegal!  Thought would send you all a far-flung message of support from sunny West Africa...  I hope you guys have a great journey - sorry I won't be around in Edinburgh to offer you my spare bed!  Will be keeping up with your blogs though - have become a bit of a Boardfree groupie over the past few months! Good luck, em x
(28.04.06)

Mr & Mrs Cornthwaite, Dave's parents - We'll be following your progress on BFUK every inch of the way Dave, and to the support team - look after him please! All the very best of luck.
(27.04.06)

Rime Hadri - Hey hey Dave! just wanted to wish you the best of luck from Leeds crew with your UK skate in a couple of days!!!! we think you are mental but a good mental guy and I for one seriously admire what you are doing for your chosen charities! will keep checking your progress, particularly the size of your calf!!! Ps. As us frenchies say " je te s'houete une gross merde!" hehe.
(26.04.06)

Willie Hunt - 2 years ago I took my board with me to Mongolia and skated whenever I could during a walk across part of the Gobi Desert. The Mongolian kids out there have never seen a skateboard, they had a lot of fun sitting on the board and getting pulled across parts of the desert. I am about to turn 40 next month and have been on a board of one form or another since the early seventies, I wish I had thought about something like this years ago. Since I discovered your web site and found out about your UK and Aussie trips I can’t stop smiling, for all those guys and girls out there who love to skate this is the ultimate board-road trip. The web site is great – I hope you can keep up with your blogs as much as possible during your UK and Aussie trips – a lot of people are going to want to follow your progress. Your body will adjust to the journey and the miles - my only advice is this – during the long haul flight out to Oz keep your board with you as hand luggage on the plane – that’s what I did when I went to Mongolia – my board came back with me – the rest of my gear disappeared.
(25.04.06)

Alex Fuller - Just thought i would wish you Good Luck on your 1000 mile board in UK, Travelled in Oz couple months ago in a coach and that seemed bloody hard work, cant imagine doing it on a board.
(25.04.06)

R Butcher - I am learning all about you and your trip at school.  I just wanted to say good luck and hope you do it.
Rupert Butcher, Year 2, Rooksbury Park School
(24.04.06)

Greg Barton, Editor of Australian Traveller magazine - Speaking as someone who's crossed and re-crossed the nullarbor around ten times using various modes of transport -- Greyhound bus, beat-up Landrover, family sedan -- i'd say it's eminently possible for Dave to achieve his dream of boarding those vast and inhospitable stretches of the Australian Outback. It's not uncommon to see tourists even cycling or motorcycling across Australia, one lonely roadhouse at a time, using only their enthusiasm and frosty bottles of Coke to speed them to safety. Although, having experienced my first fifty-plus degrees celcius day on a stretch of road between WA and South Australia, I'd certainly advise Dave to think carefully about water and shade -- because there's none of either out there. Also, when gigantic 18-wheeler road trains come thundering past, try and keep to the left. And when the first one radios behind him to his mates that he just passed a guy on a longboard in the middle of nowhere, try and keep WAY to the left -- because they'll be looking out for you.
(21.04.06)

David Eastwood via metro.co.uk - This guy is a legend!! I love to longboard, and i can totally see why this is his ambition, and he is doing this all for charity too, what a hero! I really appreciate things like this, he has set a personal goal that will be one hell of a challenge, and i wish him the best of luck and i just wish i could join him on his adventure. It will be one to remember for sure!
(21.04.06)

Matt RobertsMatt Roberts @ www.personaltrainer.uk.com - Any endurance event takes incredible levels of fitness and personal drive to reach the desired goal. What Dave is doing is a unique way of testing another sport in a new direction and I am sure he will be successful. I will be intrigued to see which of his legs is bigger at the end of the challenge as a result of his asymmetric efforts!"
(21.04.06)

Emma via metro.co.uk - Crazy, crazy crazy, makes me feel very lazy!!! It's great though as it's all for good causes. I hope it raises loads of money along the way-I'm sure it will. I admire you Dave so good luck with it!
(20.04.06)

David via ncdsa forum - This guy is a legend! i really appreicate things like this, especially when they are for a good cause. But he does have one heck of a challenge ahead, the Austrailan outback is a harsh environment, not the place for a fair skinned skater! he should get a sponsorship from a sunblock company. only kidding! Full respect and best of luck to you Dave!
(20.04.06)

Jazz via metro.co.uk - Very sweet idea. But I am a bit concerned that this guy has promised money to charities when he has only been skateboarding a matter of months. Although I have heard that the Welsh coastline can be pretty radical. I'm just worried that i've seen too many of these projects go wrong as they are fuelled by ego, and not genuine charitability.
(20.04.06)

Pete Cornthwaite via metro.co.uk - Dave is my son and although I think he is barking mad, I have no doubt he will succeed in both his trips as he is very determined. He needs all the support he can get - so get sponsoring or offering help for his John O'Groats to Lands End and trans-Aus trip!
(20.04.06)

Ben Hobson - This is one of the best things I've seen in a while. You must have one exceptional strong leg, I get tired skating around a park for a few hours and I've been skating for about 8 years! I've had a read of your website stuff, fair play for dropping everything and just doing it.
(20.04.06)

Godfrey McDonnell - Hi Dave I could not believe my ears! Anyway, I stayed tuned and hung arround to hear you on captital radio today. You make me itch all over getting it all dialled, going for it like only an Englishman would. Godders boarding & suporting you down in Dover, Kent.
(20.04.06)

Sian via metro.co.uk - If this guy was doing this purely for self achievement and just to break the world record then yes, he would be crazy, but how amazing that along the way he will raise a ton of money for charity?! It's seriously worth checking out his website to find out more about the charities he is supporting and how you can get involved...this world needs more crazy people like Dave!
(20.04.06)

Lindsay via metro.co.uk - I heard about Dave's Boardfree project on a skating forum ages ago and then saw it in the metro today. It might seem crazy to some but its all for a worthwhile cause! Good luck to Dave, love the website!
(20.04.06)

Victoria Brooks via metro.co.uk- I don't think even Paula Radcliffe calls 900 miles a 'warm up'. It's amazing to see so much ambition and determination. Good luck to Dave!
(19.04.06)

Bexi - Awsome website, tell dave good luck for the uk boardfree.
(17.04.06)

Anthony Caruana - Great thing you are doing, hope to see you in my town.
(2.04.06)

Margaret Brackeborough - Wow, that is long! (on seeing Elsa the longboard for the first time).
(25.03.06)

Ellen MacArthur, Skipper B&Q Trimaran @ www.teamellen.com - Dear Dave, the team and I here wish you and Elsa every success on these epic journeys! I'm sure that just like the sea, the roads will bring their own set of challenges, but with lows come great highs and really I hope you realise your dreams. Good luck and stay strong. Just Go For It!
(20.03.06)

Man in Hyde Park - I was thinking of doing Land's End to John o'Groats by bike because it was hard. But you're skating it as a warm-up. I hate you.
(19.03.06)

Piccia Neri @ www.piccianeri.com - Saw your post on SerpentineRoad.com and on visiting your website I actually remembered I did see the mad dog on the funny board in the park a few weeks ago. I am filled by admiration mixed with a healthy dose of envy, in the good sense, meaning I am spurred on and inspired by your project. I am restless and fretting and dreaming of adventures and if you can do it, well why the hell shouldn't we all. Thanks for showing us.
(17.03.06)

Sam Bryant - I saw your interview in the Swansea Alumnus Magazine and was pretty impressed. Skating around australia!  I'm at a 6th form college in Brighton and have been longboarding for 5 years. My Dad got me into it and he's been on a trip similar to yours only he wasn't really organised enough to get any support like you have! He longboarded around india for 6 months a few years ago, met the Dalai Lama and had a fantastic experience. Armed with a buddha board he just went out and did it which I really admired. What made me look up when reading the interview was how quickly after starting up boarding you decided to do a charity skate for 5000 miles! It's great what your doing mate, good luck and take it mile by mile!!
(13.03.06)

Bex - I wish you all the luck in the world and not just with the record attempt, but with spending that amount of time in Australia with Thorpey (cameraman Si). I did it in 2003 and would do it again tomorrow given the opportunity. You'll have a fantastic time, I'll look forward to the updates on your progress!
(13.03.06)

Gill Giles - I applaud you and what you are doing - not only for yourself but all the others whose lives you touch. You are embarking on a tremendous adventure - all of you - and I  wish you success and good health. Keep safe and who knows, may be sometime you will do the Boardfree trek across Canada!
(9.03.06)

May and Ted (Photographer Holly's grandparent's) - Have just seen part of the BoardFree website.  It sounds as though you will have a wonderful adventure, good luck to you all...
(7.03.06)

Adrienne Montes - With u in heart mind and soul every step of the way...good luck be with you...when the road gets tough ask Angel Gabriel for courage, he will help. One love.
(6.03.06)

Will L - Damn that sounds hard. Good luck mate.
(6.03.06)

"Skippy" aka Dave in Trafalgar Square, LondonTreeva Fenwick - Hello! Did I see you in a dog outfit in london this weekend - my taxi was going past trafalgar square!!!?
(20.02.06)

Sharkey - 5000 miles? Are there that many miles in the world?
(14.02.06)

Russell Heilling - This is a fantastic thing you're planning, and I wish you lots of luck. I'm sure you'll manage to hit your charity targets; and hopefully you'll manage to get more people realising that skating on a longboard can be a safe, fun method of travel and they should get out there and
ride! Also loving your "Faking it" sessions.  I've lost track of the times that I've been carving down a hill on my pintail or 5-foot cruiser to have someone shout "Oi, Tony Hawk, show us some tricks!" :)
(30.01.06)

Ben Hall - Just about to start longboarding myself. And you mate are an inspiration...a nutter! But an inspiration.
(27.01.06)

Tony HawkTony Hawk - Good luck Dave! Your journey is truly inspiring. I will never complain about my legs being too tired again.
(23.01.06)

Ryan Daughtridge @ www.bustinboards.com - I really dig your plan and wish you all the luck. I'd love to help out the cause.
(16.01.06)

Bear GryllsBear Grylls - The world needs brilliant, imaginative and above all determined people like Dave- and never forget that each blister and fall is a step closer to your dream and to changing the lives of the children charities you are raising funds for - good luck buddy! Visit www.beargrylls.com
(10.01.06)

Paul Lees @ Legends International Charity Assistance - Firstly, I am amazed that anyone would try and skate around Australia – that is an absolutely incredible task to try and complete. I will be watching with interest to see how he gets on. I traveled across Australia, through the desert from Melbourne to Perth in a car. Occasionally I would pass Japanese people on the side of the road who were either cycling or walking. I thought they were crazy doing that – to try and skate around the country seems absolute lunacy! I really do wish him all the very best – it will be an incredible achievement.
(9.01.06)

Dave Gorman - I'd consider doing this. If the skateboard had an engine. And a roof. And maybe sleeping quarters. Basically, if it was a camper van. But it's not. It's a skate board. So I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. So you - and some good charities - can be glad that another Dave is.

(9.01.06)

Matt Jam @ www.jamlongboarding.com - DAVE! Awesome trek!  Take care, be safe and good luck! We'll be checking in on you from time to time...
(26.11.05)

Amanda Shipp -
My Oz housemate just found you in his paper, you're on your way to becoming an international star!..
(23.11.05)

Nick Channon -
Hey! awesome - just came across a link to this on the lush longboards forums. Im currently a team rider for lush and am going to south america/new zealand and aus (travels) to find some amazing hills/mountains and stunning places to skate. Anyway as im getting to aus next summer for a year or so it would be awesome to hook up at some point and skate. Would be really sweet to come do a small portion of the journey with you! Seems like forest gump only on a skate board. 100% back what your doing. Is a really good idea and for an excellent cause- huge props.
(22.11.05)

Nigel McKinlay -
...Well, some of you poms are mad buggers..
(22.11.05)

James Looker -
I travel with Xavier Rudd worldwide. We played a show at the carling academy in london the other day, and someone gave me a wristband and explained what your doing. I told xavier, and he already knew. So we are both wearing your wristband, and fully support what you are doing, as fellow longboarders. (See www.xavierrudd.com)
(22.11.05)

Mike Allen, rolls rolls USA -
Good luck on your trip! I put the boards together for Jack Smith, and team for the SAA trip. Any questions, or help, let me know. See www.rollsrolls.com
(22.11.05)

Sam Trowbridge -
Hey dude.. I'm Sam and I live in Perth.. I'm a longboarder too and I think what you're doing is awesome. I'd love to ride with you sometime!
(22.11.05)

Alan Fletcher, Karl Kennedy from NeighboursAlan Fletcher aka Dr Karl Kennedy from Neighbours! -
What a brave man you are! Would be happy to help out in Oz next year. Keep me up to speed with your progress and congratulations on such an admirable effort. Cheers, Fletch
(14.11.05)

Leah Doherty
- I've just seen the third Faking It video and can't believe you're still that rubbish!
(8.11.05)

Dan Ballard - Anyone who lives their dreams masquerading as a fundraiser for good causes is a genius!  Anyone who does this and manages to attract some decent attention and raise some serious cash at the same time is a genuine legend! Best of luck bro - I'm all for it!
(28.10.05)

Emilie Venables
- A mesage from my mate Julie - watch out for the mice along the Nullarbor!  You have been warned...  (she used to work there and said it was only fair you knew!)
(27.10.05)

Emilie Venables
- You may be getting older (happy birthday!) but you're still doing crazy things for charity, so that's all that matters...What happened to the calf measurements? I want details!
(25.10.05)

Shruti Dudhia -
Hey Dave, good luck, sounds amazing!
(25.10.05)

Mother Cornthwaite at work -
Just showing you off to other mad midwives! Keep boarding Dave, speak to you soon!
(23.10.05)

Russell Wade -
I don't think you can do it, I think you're f****** mad. But I'd only do John o'Groats to Land's End, not the other way, because it will be easier if you go down.
(20.10.05)

Nick Howe -
I have no idea why I'm on this site, but what the heck, I like it. Good luck.
(19.10.05)

Amanda Shipp -
I love it! Have just seen the latest Dare Dave and I now have a comedy image of you straddling a horny sheep whilst on the longboard trying to knit in the middle of nowhere...
(4.10.05)
Reply from Dave - That is not a comedy image, that is a picture of impending reality. Not only will I have to endure endless sheep jokes, have the endless Michael taken out of me by local Ozzies AND suffer the ridiculous irony of knitting a wooly hat in the middle of a desert, but I'll also be there, in the full splendour of a tv documentary. Knitting. Just knitting. Knitting a hat. I am ashamed.

Kit and Barbara Coward - I hope Dave will have a good support team because he'll surely need it. There's an awful lot of nothing between the east and west of Australia.
(3.10.05)

Chantal Braganza via email to Dave's cousin in Oz -
I hope your spirited cousin has a suitably mad canine companion?  You know....mad dogs and Englishman.....sorry, couldn't resist.
(22.8.05)

Arthur Hendey via answering machine -
I don't know if you know but I'm 70 years old. I'm mad as a hatter, and I'm glad to say that you're mad as a hatter as well (listen to the full message).
(22.7.05)

Bobby Russell -
As we get older we are supposed to get more sensible. Obviously isn't happening. So you're going to Australia to collect knee grazes and grass stains..... hmmmm.
(22.7.05)

Stephen Dyer
- Watch out for kangeroos at night time, they're attracted to light and are suicidal!
